The butterflies in the drawing are based on a real butterfly that flew through my window, where its wings became damaged. I photographed it from different angles and used these images as references throughout the piece. Although multiple butterflies appear in the drawing, they are actually different views of the same butterfly, transformed into a surreal element that hides the figure’s eyes and becomes part of the person’s identity.
The damaged wings symbolize imperfection and the experiences that leave lasting marks. The figure is both restricted and protected by the butterflies, creating an unsettling yet peaceful atmosphere.
